Progress Report: 21/04/2014 – 27/04/2014

Welcome to week sixteen.

Rag & Bones: Secrets

I nearly completed all of my objectives for Secrets. I finished the paperback, kindle and Smaswords versions and I’ve done everything for the large print except for the cover. I’ve also published it to Smashwords for pre-order, so it should be available at B&N and Kobo over the next week – it’s already available at iBooks.

This week I should be able to get the large print cover done and all versions ready to go for release date, which is 22 May.

Rag & Bones Shorts: 1985

I’ve made the Smashwords version of this one, but haven’t got any further. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get this one published this week, but maybe with another Bank Holiday weekend, it’ll slide again.

Rag & Bones – Book 4

This week I’m going to start writing Book 4. I haven’t completely decided on the name yet, but I hope to have done that by next week. I’ll aim for 2,000 words a day, Monday – Friday, as it’s always more difficult to get the word count up in the first week, but if I manage 3,000, that’ll be great. I’m hoping that now I know the characters much better, it’ll be easier to get into the swing of it and blast those words out.

Story Tweet

I’ll be tweeting the beginning of Book Three of The Rag & Bones Vampire Series on the @RagBonesVampire twitter account over the weekend (starting at 8.30 am BST tomorrow). The tweets will be every half hour and will continue on until early Monday morning (thank goodness for scheduling!). Hope to see you there.

Welcome to week fifteen.

Rag & Bones: Secrets

Well, I’m pleased to say that, even with Easter in the mix, I managed another complete read-through of Book Three. It is now in finalised Kindle format (as in the downloaded mobi file from the KDP page), so this coming week I will be preparing the Smashwords version and doing another read-through of that. I also want to get the paperback version through the Smashwords process, which means preparing the cover as well, and if I can manage it, get the large print version prepared. That last one might be pushing it, though.

Rag & Bones Shorts: 1985

I completed another read-through of this short and I now need to make it into a Smashwords version. I hope to have it ready (and possibly also published) by next week’s report.

Progress Report: 07/04/2014 – 13/04/2014

Welcome to week fourteen. I didn’t manage nearly as much reading this week as last week. Instead, I ended up listening to quite a few podcasts and I also started redoing my website (I tried to redo it a few weeks ago, by changing the colours, but it doesn’t really work, so now I’m starting from scratch with a completely new template), which I hope to finish next weekend.

Rag & Bones: Secrets

I completed another full edit of Secrets this week, as planned. It is now ready to be converted to eBook format for the next read through, which I will do this week, but with Easter nearly upon us, I’m not sure I’ll get another full edit done before my next report.

Rag & Bones Shorts: 1985

I didn’t get round to editing this again this week, so it will be my first task for next week. I hope to be able to publish it after Easter.

Progress Report: 31/03/2014 – 06/04/2014

Welcome to week thirteen. Well, this week was mixed. I spent some time on the Dystopian novel, but I’m still not sure where it’s going yet, so that’s going to rest again now and I also wrote an entire new Rag & Bones short. It’s come in at about 7K instead of 10K and I don’t think there are that many more words to squeeze out of it, but we’ll see over the next few weeks with edits. I’ve also spent a lot of time reading this week, partly due to getting my new free Scribd. subscription.

Next week I’ll be back to editing the third novel in the Rag & Bones series – Secrets – and possibly doing an edit on the short as well.

Dystopian Novel

  • Monday – 6,982 (started around 5.5 K, but I didn’t note it down)
  • Tuesday – 8020
  • Wednesday – 9,037
  • Thursday – 10,039
  • Friday, 10,832

Rag & Bones Short – 1985

  • Thursday – 6,025
  • Friday – 7,004

Let’s Help Each Other

If you’re a Smashwords author published on Scribd., you’ll probably have received your free subscription by now. I’m just getting used to the format, but I’ve already read one book and am part way through another (both indie published).

I was thinking that this could be a great opportunity for indie authors to support each other, just be reading (which, of course, we all do, don’t we?). It isn’t like you’ll be taking a risk by picking a book by an indie author you don’t know, because if you don’t like it, there’s no cost in stopping reading.

I have decided that I will read at least one new indie author a month and if everyone with a free subscription could join in and do the same, that would be a big boost to all the, as yet, undiscovered authors out there.

So, if you would like me to consider one of your books published on Scribd, please leave the link to it (at Scribd.) in the comments below. I’m not going to guarantee I’ll read it, but you’re in with a chance. However, there are some rules (my preferences).

  1. No free books – that won’t benefit anyone, because I could download those from Smashwords itself.
  2. No erotica.
  3. No pure romance.
  4. Nothing with heavily described violence or gore.

Apart from that, I’m willing to give most things a go (but if it’s non-fiction, it would probably have to be about writing for me to want to read it). I will give all books I read a star rating, but don’t expect a five. A five, for me, has to be exceptional. You’re more likely to get a three or four (because if I liked the beginning enough to continue, it would have to be at least a three).

Here’s my page in case you wish to look up my books. Unfortunately, the Scribd. format makes all the covers look squashed (or maybe that’s my computer), and some of the Rag & Bones books still have their old covers (hopefully that will update over time).

Happy reading!
