Progress Report: 22/12/2014 – 28/12/2014

Welcome to week fifty-one.

NaNo Project

Well, as expected, progress was a lot slower this week. I finished going through Book One, which now stands at approximately 55,300 words. I have also started on Book Two, now at 41,500 words. I’m about a third of the way through Book Two, which is a little less than I’d hoped. This week I’ll be continuing with Book Two, at least some of the time, as New Year will obviously impact on it somewhat. I’m going to aim for being about two-thirds of the way through by my next report – fingers crossed.

Welcome to week fifty.

NaNo Project

This is progressing well. I’ve now done another edit of Book One – it currently stands at about 55.5K words. I’ve also started on Book Two – which I’m about 10K through. It’s around 40K now, so quite a way to go with this one.

I’m going to do as much as I canΒ  over the Christmas period, but there will be days when nothing is achieved, I’m sure. Even if I only do 1K a day, it’ll be better than nothing. The beginning of Book Two is okay, but I know as I get further through there will need to be a lot more detail added, and probably more connecting scenes, but I’m not going to worry abou that until I get to it.

Merry Christmas to everyone who visits here and, hopefully, I’ll be able to do another update next week.

Progress Report: 08/12/2014 – 14/12/2014

Welcome to week forty-nine.

NaNo Project

Well, apart from my two days of no work, I’ve been editing the first book in my NaNo series. I’m averaging about 5K words per day, and am about 27K through so far. That means that by the end of this week, I should’ve finished Book One and be onto Book Two. Hopefully, I’ll pretty much have finished Book Two by Christmas – although Christmas might overtake me. Probably will. Christmas has a way of doing that!

I’m pretty happy with Book One so far. I expect Book Two will need a lot more adjustment and will certainly need a lot more words adding. I think I’m going to aim for each one to be roughly 60K, which with a further round of editing after this, should be doable.

Welcome to week forty-eight.

R&B Short: 1978

This story had a final edit this week and is now published. I’ve only published this one on KDP Select, as I’m going to give it a test in Kindle Unlimited for a while and see how that goes.

Other Projects

Loads of admin catch-up. I’m still not up-to-date with my accounts, but all the paperwork that was lying around the house has been sorted.

In terms of writing, I did very little. I have written about one thousand words of a potential short story/novella, but I haven’t really fixed in my head how it will go yet.

This next week, I have two days when I won’t be at home and writing will be virtually impossible, but on the other days I intend to start sorting out my NaNo novels.

Reading

Aim: To monitor time spent reading over the week.

R = Normal reading, A = Audio book, T = Reading on the treadmill.

I didn’t mention previously, but I bought a Kindle Fire a couple of weeks ago and there’s one particular thing I love about it – the read out loud option on books. The voice is so much better than any I’ve listened to before. It isn’t perfect by any means, but it is very easy to listen to. So, I’ve been listening to one of my Kindle books while doing other things.

Progress Report: 24/11/2014 – 30/11/2014

Welcome to week forty-seven.

NaNoWriMo

‘Tis the day after the month before and as you can see from my final counter total, I ended up with 110,595 words verified. Anyone who has done NaNo themselves will know that the total that comes out from the verification rarely matches your total in your document, and the verified total is about 50 words different (more!).

The final week was tough. I started off struggling to progress Book Three, so on Wednesday I decided to write what I did know – the ending. That ended up working very well and I made my wordcounts for Wednesday and Thursday, but then got stuck again. I went back to the beginning of Book Two and started editing it, but it was clear I wasn’t going to manage 4K a day, so I revised that down to 2K, which was still a struggle. On Sunday, I really didn’t want to write at all, but I made myself get over the 110K total.

I haven’t worked out how many words I have for Books Two and Three exactly, but using last week’s calculations as a basis, I reckon Book Two is about 34/35K, and Book Three is somewhere around 25/30K.

I am not going to touch these this week (unless it’s reorganising my file, because that really needs to be done once I’ve purchased the full version of Scrivener).

Anyway, here’s a screen shot of my stats.

NaNo Results 2014Over 3.6K words per day! And here are the daily wordcounts.

NaNo 2014 wordcounts

So, what now?

Well, apart from any file tidying, I have quite a bit of general paperwork to catch up on this week, and I also want to get the R&B short published. Apart from that, I’m going to take it easy so that I’m fresh to start editing again next week.

Other Projects

Nothing. Zero, Zilch.
