Progress Report: 19/01/2015 – 25/01/2015

Welcome to week four.

Rag & Bones: Book Five

I love my Kindle Fire and I love Scrivener!

Okay, let’s clarify that a little. You may remember that this week I was going to do a listening edit to Book Five using my Kindle Fire. I did and it was fantastic. So much better than using the Adobe Reader pdf file read-through. The voice isn’t perfect, but it goes up at the end of sentences and it has a go at intonation for everything, and it gets it right most of the time. There are occasions when it misreads a word, clips it short, or uses the wrong version, eg read, bow, etc, but that’s minor. I found quite a number of missed-out words, wrong words and sentences that needed unjumbling a little. If I could make the change as it was reading, I did (you have to be pretty quick). Otherwise, I highlighted the text and went back afterwards. The only problem I had with the process was getting the file onto the Kindle, but that was mainly because it didn’t appear on the device where I thought it would – I copied it into Books (as specified in the instructions), but it appeared in Docs. Never mind, just one of those quirks you find out as you go along.

And I love Scrivener because it created me a Mobi file in seconds. Okay, it took me a little bit of fiddling to get the file sorted in the first place, but once it’s set up properly, it’s going to be so easy.

So, I’ve been through the book another time, as above, and now it’s going to rest again for a while. I can’t remember the exact wordcount without going into the file, but it’s over 61K for sure.

I finished that on Friday. So, then I started …

Rag & Bones: Allies (Book Six)

Book Six and Book Seven are going to cover the same timespan, so at this moment in time I’m intending to write them back-to-back and release them at the same time (or very close together).

Two days in and I have just over 3.2K words written. It’s not a tremendous wordcount, but I haven’t got all the scenes planned out and I spent some of that time planning the first few chapters. Once again, I know how this one is going to end, but I’m not entirely sure what happens in the middle, and as the characters are split between Books Six and Seven, I have new characters to introduce – more vampires!

I’ll work on this all week and see how far I get.
