Progress Report: 18/05/2015 – 24/05/2015

Welcome to week twenty-one.

I’m writing most of this on Friday, as I’ll be away over the weekend. I hope you have a good Bank Holiday (if you have one where you are).

Rag & Bones: Allies (Book Six) and Conflict (Book Seven)

I have uploaded the ePub versions to Smashwords now (just, on Friday) and am awaiting confirmation that all is okay. I haven’t pressed the final confirm button on Amazon yet, but assuming there are no problems on Smashwords, I’ll do that next week.

Nano Project (Book Two)

I’ve completed the first run-through of this book. I actually finished on Thursday, which surprised me. The story fits together now, but is by no means perfect, but I’ll let it rest while I get on with Book Three. I have started mapping out Book Three. I already have chapter one from the previous incarnation of Books Two and Three, or partial chapter, I’m not sure. I hope to dabble in adding more to this over the weekend and to start writing proper when I’m back to work on Tuesday.

Fantasy Book 1

I did nothing on this book this week, as planned.

Fantasy Book 2

I did do a tiny bit of work on this during the week, but not a lot.

Other Projects

My R&B story is gradually making its way onto Wattpad. I’ve had a few readers, and a few votes. I’m not sure whether most people read stories as they are put up, or whether they prefer to wait until the whole thing is there (I know I’m in the latter camp), but we’ll see.

I also, out of the blue, wrote a short story this week. It’s about 1,200 words and I’m intending to submit it to a short story site next week after it’s had a few tweaks. I’ll let you know if that’s successful, or not. I’d like to write more short stories like this (and get paid for them!).

Progress Report: 11/05/2015 – 17/05/2015

Welcome to week twenty.

This had been another successful week. I feel like I’ve achieved a fair bit, even if not all the tasks I set for myself have been completed.

Rag & Bones: Allies (Book Six) and Conflict (Book Seven)

Both these books are now up for pre-order on Amazon. I haven’t pushed the button to say they are final copies yet, I’ll do that when I’ve finished the ePub versions as well. It ended up being quite complicated, as I needed to copy links from publishing each one into the other book (if you see what I mean). So, I didn’t rush it. I completed one task each day.

I have converted both books into ePub versions, but I haven’t properly checked them yet. I did test one on epubcheck, and it passed without any errors at all, which I thought was amazing, but I need to go through them both on Adobe Digital Editions before going further. I intend to have them up on Smashwords by the end of the week (which I’m counting as Friday, as this is another Bank Holiday weekend coming up).

Nano Project (Book Two)

I’m going well on Book Two. I haven’t kept a note of exactly where I’ve got to, but I’m well into the story already. I haven’t got to any parts where I need to start adjusting the story yet. I expect that will happen this week. This will be my main project again, but as there are only five proper working days, I’m not sure how far I’ll get.

Fantasy Book 1

I did nothing on this book this week. I’m not going to try doing more this coming week. I’ll resume the week after when all the formatting, etc, is out of the way.

Fantasy Book 2

I didn’t do anything on this book either this week, but that was mainly because of the Other Projects below. I may not get any done this week either, considering the shorter week.

Other Projects

I finished my wattpad R&B story this week. I edited and I completed another round with my Kindle reading it out. The first part is now up on wattpad (actually, by the time this comes out, the second part will probably be up as well), so we’ll see how that goes. I think I’ve worked out my way around the site now. The story upload is a little basic. There’s no text formatting, other than bold and italic. So that means no indented paragraphs and putting line spaces between the paragraphs. Personally, I’m not keen on this format for reading, because on a small tablet screen, it means there are only a few lines showing before I have to turn the page (I do have the text larger – I’m old you know!). But there’s not a lot I can do about that.

Reading

Aim: To monitor time spent reading over the week.

R = Normal reading, A = Audio book, T = Reading on the treadmill.

  • Monday: R 215m
  • Tuesday: R 264m
  • Wednesday: R 204m
  • Thursday: R 149m
  • Friday: R 120m
  • Saturday: R 162m
  • Sunday: R 394m

Total hours: 25h 8m

Progress Report: 04/05/2015 – 10/05/2015

Welcome to week nineteen.

This has been a very productive week, much more so than I imagined it would be. Hurrah! So, here’s the story.

Rag & Bones: Allies (Book Six) and Conflict (Book Seven)

I managed to get all the way through both books reading them on my Kindle, which I hadn’t expected to be able to manage. I still have to finish off the eBooks, as in make sure the front and back matter are complete, before publishing, which I intend to do this week. I also still have to write blurbs for both. And finally, I need to try to create epub versions with Scrivener, which I haven’t done before. That might take some time, or it may just be the press of a button and they’ll work straight away with epubcheck (yeah, right!). Hopefully, both versions will be published before the end of the week (on pre-order).

Nano Project (Book One)

I finished my edit of Book One this week (as well!). It came in at a smidgen over 60K. Next week, a first edit of Book Two will be my main project. If I get halfway through, I’ll be pleased. I should probably also start planning out the new Book Three, as that’ll be writing from scratch again.

Fantasy Book 1

As suspected, I did nothing on this book this week.

Fantasy Book 2

I’m still plodding on with this book. It’s now at about 10.1K. It will continue on in the background this week.

Other Projects

I have decided that I will probably put something up on Wattpad, and I’ve started writing a short story for that purpose. It’s about 5K words so far, but is still a very rough draft. I intend to put it up in chapters, but not sure what frequency yet. It is a story in the R&B world, so hopefully I will be able to link it in to my eBooks.

Reading

Aim: To monitor time spent reading over the week.

R = Normal reading, A = Audio book, T = Reading on the treadmill.

  • Monday: R 135m
  • Tuesday: R 120m, T 33m
  • Wednesday: R 105m
  • Thursday: R 123m
  • Friday: R 102m
  • Saturday: R 188m
  • Sunday: R 187m

Total hours: 16h 33m

Books Completed (this week)

Black Daffodil by Katherine John
The God Decrees (Devan Chronicles by Mark E Cooper (Quest Anthology)
Looking for Miriam by Kristine Kathryn Rusch (short story)
One Hundred Steps by Susan Ee (Drabble)
The Good Death Guide by Thestevejordan (short story)

Progress Report: 27/04/2015 – 03/05/2015

Welcome to week eighteen.

Rag & Bones: Allies (Book Six) and Conflict (Book Seven)

The Kindle reads (out loud) were finished this week and the books have rested for a few days before the final read next week. This will be the priority project over the next week (two weeks?), so that I can get the books out of the way and concentrate on other books.

Nano Project (Book One)

The editing of this book has speeded up over the remainder of this week. I’m probably about sixty per cent of the way through now. This week it’ll go back to one chapter per day (hopefully). I also spent some time combining Books Two and Three into one book. I’ve deleted the chapters that definitely won’t appear, but there will be a lot of joining the dots to do when I start editing this.

Fantasy Book 1

No progress on this book this week. I think this book might rest until the R&B books are out of the way because I need to sort out the next part of the plot in my head and that needs a bit more space to do.

Fantasy Book 2

This book is now about 7.8K words, which has nearly doubled the wordcount. I expect it will increase again this week, but maybe not by quite so many words.

Other Projects

With the Bank Holiday weekend, there hasn’t been anything extra in terms of work, but I did join Wattpad this week. I did it on a bit of a whim, when I realised there was an app I could download onto my Kindle Fire. I haven’t posted anything there (and I’m not sure I will), but I have read a couple of short stories. I think I’ll just read for a while and get a feel for it before deciding for certain.
