Progress Report: 21/09/2015 – 27/09/2015

Welcome to week thirty-nine, and nearly another month over.

Zombie Novella

After another complete editing pass and two more read throughs (hopefully, by the end of today!), this now stands at 22.5K. I hope to have it up on Amazon on Monday, and other retailers shortly thereafter.

Other Projects

I did more short story writing this week, but I’m getting confused as to what I did which week! At this point, Sunday morning, I’ve submitted one story to a competition. I have another to submit to a competition today or tomorrow, and two others that aren’t due until later. I also have another story I started writing for a submission call, but I don’t think it really fits the publication. And then, there’s that story I wrote a while back that needs to be submitted before the end of the month, if I decide to, which I think I will. Phew!

I’ve started planning out my next novel, which I’ll continue over the next couple of days while I’m doing all the submitting and uploading (above). This will be my October project and will be named Classroom Novel as its working title for this blog. I also want to start doing some research for my next big project after that and to think about the last R&B novel, which I might do for NaNoWriMo. I think, back at the beginning of the year, I said I’d do something different, but that’s the way it goes!

Progress Report: 14/09/2015 – 20/09/2015

Welcome to week thirty-eight.

Zombie Novella

I managed three passes on this book. Yes, three. One normal edit on the screen. One read through on my basic Kindle. One read out loud on my Kindle Fire. Of course, this was only possible because it’s a novella. It now stands at 20K words, which is where I wanted it to be when I started. I’ve chosen a cover picture I like, but I want to let the book rest a little longer again before I do a final pass. I think I finished it on Thursday this past week, so if I leave it till midweek, that’ll be a whole week again. I can’t leave it any longer, as I want to get it out before the end of the month. I’m not going to do a paperback with this one. I don’t think it’s worth the effort for something so short, and the cost will be disproportionately high with using POD.

Other Projects

I did a little more on my non-fiction. I’ll be continuing this in the coming week.

I also wrote another couple of short stores. They should rightly be called flash fiction, because they’re both under 1K words. They’re both for competitions and need to be submitted before the end of the month, so I’ll be finalising them during the coming week. I’ve joined a couple of short story Facebook groups, which is where I found out about these competitions. Hopefully, there will be more over the coming months.

The other thing I’ve been doing over the last couple of weeks is trying to increase the amount of time I spend standing at my desk. I was regularly doing 2-2.5 hours per day before, but now I’ve increased it to about 4 hours, and I’ve included Saturday in the days I do it. Before I allowed myself to sit at the weekends. I’m still sitting on Sundays, because I do more paperwork then and it’s difficult to do that while standing, because you have to keep bending down to look at things. Anyway, going well so far.

Progress Report: 07/09/2015 – 13/09/2015

Welcome to week thirty-seven.

Zombie Novella

Nothing on this book this week, as planned. In the coming week I will do another pass on this book and possibly a read through on my Kindle, depending on how long it takes.

Other Projects

I’ve been working on my non-fiction books all week. I’m not quite done with a first draft of everything, but I hope to get that finished in the coming week. I’ve finally worked out the formatting in Scrivener, so I need to go back and sort out the book I was having trouble with last week. It’s like everything, when you know how to do it, it’s easy.

Progress Report: 31/08/2015 – 06/09/2015

Welcome to week thirty-six.

Zombie Novella

I finished another run-through on this novella, adding a couple of scenes, and it’s now at around 16.5K. I’m leaving this for another week before I go back to it.

Other Projects

I had intended to do more on short stories this week. I did work out another, better ending to one of the stories I’d already written, but on looking at the place I was going to submit it to, I found they’ve reduced what they’re paying, so I’m not sure I’m going to submit it now. Although, what else I’d use if for, I don’t know. Anyway, I’ve got a few weeks to decide.

I didn’t write any new stories. I decided instead to work on some non-fiction that I’ve been meaning to do (which I write under a pen name), and managed a complete first draft of one book (around 12K). Today, Sunday, I’ve had a nightmare trying to get the formatting right in Scrivener. I was almost at the point of giving up and transferring it to Microsoft Word, but I think I’m there now. It’s actually quite difficult to write non-fiction if you use the title function to take the name of the document, rather than typing out the title in the document (if you use Scrivener, you’ll know what I mean). So, I’ve now put all the sub-titles into the documents. It means I need to do quite a bit of ‘preserve formatting’, but that’s okay. I’d rather have a Scrivener document that I can easily make into mobi and ePub versions, and as this one won’t be a print book, that works out fine. Anyway, I’m going to continue working on this book next week, and possibly start the second one I wmt to do.
