Progress Report: 18/01/2016 – 23/01/2016

Welcome to week four.

This week hasn’t been quite as productive as I’d hoped, mainly because for the whole middle of the week I had a stomach upset (the less said about that, the better), and although I did write, my wordcount is down on what I’d hoped. Never mind, that’s life.

Rag & Bones Final

So, I haven’t yet got to the end of the story first time round. I’m nearly there, but not quite and the wordcount stands at 32,725. I’ve probably got one, maybe two more days of rough draft writing before I go through and add in all the bits I’ve missed out. There are more scenes now than I’d planned, but that was to be expected, and a couple of things have been resolved in ways I didn’t foresee, but if you know everything when you start out, where’s the fun?

Other Projects

So, it was mainly the admin that suffered this week. Partly, because of the above stomach upset, and partly, because it was very cold and working in my office (back bedroom), wasn’t an option. Without my desk, admin is virtually impossible.

I’ve also written a 600 word story for submission to an anthology. I expect I’ll send it off this week.

Welcome to week ????. Okay, that’s a bit silly, but I’m protesting, because WordPress has forced me into a new format for creating my posts and I cannot see an option to copy a previous post. Gah! Anyone know how to do this without opening up the previous post and using copy and paste? Please let me know.

Let’s begin again.

Welcome to week three.

Rag & Bones Final

This is going well. My current wordcount is 18,456, which is within the 15-20K margin I was aiming for. As usual, it will need a lot of description added into the conversations when I do the first run-through, but I still have a way to go with the scenes I planned out. They’re pretty much following the plan I set out, with one or two things happening in a slightly different order. Over the next week I will be adding to the wordcount. I expect I’ll finish the rough draft and start adding to it in a second pass before the end of the week.

Other Projects

Doing a  little admin every day has worked well. It stopped me getting bogged down with it too much, the way admin sometimes can. I still haven’t quite finished getting up-to-date, so I’ll continue with this over the coming week. If I finish, I might start some editing on the NaNo novel.

Welcome to week two.

And back to the grindstone. No, really, it isn’t a grindstone, but it is a routine, and I now feel that I’m fully back into it. This is good.

Non-Fiction Project

As hoped, the first of my non-fiction books is finished and out the door. It did take a little more time than I expected, which impacted on some other stuff I was intending to do, but I have a plan for that!

Rag & Bones – The Final Book

This book is now plotted out, probably more than any book I’ve written, so far. Basically, it has to be, as there are so many plot threads from other books that need to be pulled together. And, as a number of characters are going to die, getting the deaths in the right place needed to be sorted beforehand. So, it’s all ready to start on this coming week. If I can have 15-20K done by the time I do my next report, I’ll be happy.

Other Projects

So, the thing I didn’t get done was the paperwork. Instead of working on two books at once, I’m going to do my R&B wordcount for the day and then I’m going to try to catch up on the paperwork later in the day. Hopefully, by the weekend, I’ll be finished (or, at least, up to date).

I did write a very short story, for a competition, and submitted it on the same day (today, Sunday).

Welcome to week ONE!

Okay, so it’s only, technically, half a week for this year, but that cannot be helped. I hope everyone had a good New Year celebration and that you’re not still hungover. You are? Ah, well, this post will just be a blur of words, then.

In a Realm of Memories

Formerly known as The Classroom Novel.

I actually managed more work than I expected in the week between Christmas and New Year, but it was all on this project. No prep work was done for anything else. Because of that, the eBook was published on 31 December and I’ve just pressed publish on the paperback (just before 9.00 am on Sunday). Yes, I do get up early on Sundays. I get up early every day when I’m at home. Anyway, I’m pleased that this one is now out the door. All the links are over at my website if you’re interested in taking a look.

Other Projects

For the rest of today, I’m just going to be catching up on admin and tidying up my desk, which is in a bit of a state after the disruption of the last three months. I won’t get it all done, but it’ll be a start.

Next Week’s Work

I’ve decided that next week is going to be when I get the first of my pen name non-fiction books out. That will be my main project. It’s basically written, but just needs tweaking. When I first drafted this one, I hadn’t worked out the formatting in Scrivener, so I need to sort that as well.

The sub-project will be planning out R&B 8, so that I can start writing it the following week (or next week if I finish the non-fiction project quickly).

Reading

Aim: To monitor time spent reading over the week.

I really need to get back into my reading. As I’m writing this, I intend to do some later today, but the rest of the week has been a washout. I find it very difficult to read when I’m at someone else’s house, because it’s not my usual quiet environment. I’ll update this post in the morning if I do.
